Mental Health Clinics

Two Locations:

Days/Hours: Business office hours for our Mental Health Clinics are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Appointments are typically scheduled to accommodate the needs of the participant and their family.  Services may take place in a clinic, school or home setting.

Participants are
: Children, adolescents and their families.

Fees:  Fees for our Mental Health Clinics’ services are reimbursable by Medical Assistance, third party insurance payers and contractual agreements with counties.   Our clinics are in the network of most managed care companies and accept most insurance.

The Volunteers of America of Minnesota Mental Health Clinics offer diverse, culturally competent, high-quality mental health services for children, adolescents, and their families.  These services may take place in the clinic office, school or home setting and are individualized to meet the unique needs of each child and their family.

 

Our Mental Health Clinics’ multidisciplinary team of professional staff focus on helping children, adolescents and their families’ cope with and manage:

  • Emotional and behavior problems and disturbances
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • ADHD
  • Parent/child conflict
  • Grief and loss issues
  • Attachment issues

Additionally, our team has specialized expertise to meet the mental health needs of children and adolescents who are:      

  • Living in foster care
  • Returning home from out-of-home placement
  • Deaf or hard of hearing.

Our comprehensive mental health services help children and adolescents learn effective ways to manage their behaviors and emotions to be successful at home, at school and in the community.  Additionally, our services help parents learn how to understand their children’s problems and learn more effective ways to manage their children’s behavior.

Volunteers of America of Minnesota’s Mental Health Clinics are Minnesota Department of Human Services licensed Rule 29 Mental Health Clinics and are accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA).  Additionally, we are a DHS certified provider of Children’s Therapeutic Services and Support (CTSS) with local certification in several counties including Anoka, Benton, Hennepin, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Ramsey, Sherburne, Stearns and Wright.

Mental Health Services

·         Psychiatric Assessment, Evaluation and Services:  A face-to-face interview with a psychiatrist for the purpose of assessing and diagnosing a person’s current life situation, sources of stress, current functioning, current symptoms, history of mental health problems, and recommendations for the treatment. Ongoing services involve meeting with a psychiatrist for the purpose of improving the person’s current condition through medication treatment and or psychotherapy.

·         Medication Management:  Appointments with a psychiatrist around the effectiveness of medication treatment.

·         Psychological Assessment and Psychological Testing:  The use of tests or other psychometric instruments to determine the status of a person’s mental, intellectual and emotional functioning.  A face-to-face interview with the psychologist is a component of any testing or assessment to validate the findings of any psychometric instrument.

·         Individual Psychotherapy:  Psychotherapy designed for one individual with a Mental Health Professional or by a Mental Health Practitioner who is supervised by a Mental Health Professional.

·         Family Psychotherapy:  Psychotherapy that is designed for a couple or family group with a Mental Health Professional or a Mental Health Practitioner.

·         Group Psychotherapy:  Psychotherapy provided by a Mental Health Professional for three persons or more who because of the nature of their emotional, behavioral, or social problems can derive mutual benefit from interaction in a group setting.

·         Group Counseling:  Counseling provided by a Mental Health Practitioner for three or more persons who have common problems and can benefit from a group setting.

·         Family and Parent Education:  Psycho educational groups facilitated by a mental health practitioner for the purpose enriching parenting skills or family relationships.
