Description:
Phoenix High School is a State approved Alternative Program located in the Uptown area of Minneapolis. The school serves English Language Learners as well as native English speakers who may need to recover credits. Phoenix High School allows for flexible scheduling and has small classroom sizes. The school’s goal is to increase educational literacy skills of all students, as well as offer language instructional assistance for English Language Learners. Phoenix High School is contracted by Minneapolis Public Schools and operated by Volunteers of America-Minnesota.

Curriculum/Courses:
- Core classes include Science, Math, English and Social Studies
- Elective classes include Art, Dance, Music, Creative Writing, Bike Building and Canoe Building
- Students are grouped based on their language ability ranging from minimal English to native English speaking and provided a curriculum based on their language needs
- Students who qualify will also have the opportunity to make-up credits with additional classroom or online classes
- Multiple grading periods within each quarter provide students with additional flexibility
Support Services:
- A licensed school counselor is available to assist students with issues and problems which may be preventing success in school
- Volunteers of America-Minnesota services are available to students including family support, mental health services and therapeutic support to foster homes
Enrollment:
- Every student must attend an orientation session. Sessions are held every three weeks. During this session, students are given a tour of the school and a basic language test to determine their English ability and find classes that best meet their language needs. Each student must also complete a new student folder and registration form. Please contact Phoenix High School for information about the next orientation session.
