3M Hosts "Finding Your Passion" Student Career Day Event
 
 

 
3M Scientists Share Their Paths to Success With Students
3M's Team Africa and The African American Society hosted a special career day event on February 22 for students of the Volunteers of America of Minnesota Education Center in celebration of Black History Month. Geared especially toward students with interests in chemistry, physics, engineering, math and computers, the theme of the event was entitled, "Finding Your Passion."  A majority of the 38 students who attended were from our English language learners (ELL) programs and several were from our Secondary Alternative program.  Learn more >

MFBSA Award
Volunteers of America's Mental Health Clinics is recipient of the MFBSA  (Minnesota Family Based Services Association) 2008 Metro Region Agency of the Year award for its outstanding work with children and families. 
 
Grant Award Supports Human Service Mentoring
Volunteers of America of Minnesota was awarded a 15-month grant by the Alliance for Children and Families to serve as a mentor to other organizations seeking to serve senior citizens.  Learn more >

Sam Finds Acceptance
"Sam" (not his real name) is profoundly deaf and has been diagnosed with ADHD (Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder). He attends a school for the deaf where he has become fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). During his first two years of elementary school, most of the kids preferred to keep their distance from Sam. Learn more >

Alone In America
Mohammed Aeybo is in his nineties. Born in Ethiopia, he entered the U.S. in 2002 with two adult sons after surviving years of suffering in a refugee camp in Kenya. After his arrival in the U.S., Mohammed lived with his sons in a Minneapolis Public Housing Authority (MPHA) highrise. Mohammed's sons eventually moved out.  Learn more >
