In the spring of 2010 Volunteers of America-Minnesota negotiated a new contract with Ramsey County to provide housing for women, coming out of chemical dependency treatment, to provide a "step down" measure allowing them to regain employment and prepare them to seek and obtain permanent housing. The program opened as a 24-bed capacity, fully furnished and is now operated on a campus in North Oaks, next door to the currently operating Women's Recovery Center. Thus, Volunteers of America - Minnesota has achieved a seamless continuum from treatment to housing.
The program offers:
- 24-hour per day supervised group living;
-
Fully furnished single occupancy rooms, with kitchen access
-
Full meal service
-
Daily support groups meet on-site - examples include Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, together with staff led support groups
-
Information and referral for seeking regular or part-time employment
-
Volunteer opportunities to support recovery, including Habitat for Humanity, Toastmasters International, and local church groups
