Events

At Volunteers of America-Minnesota we provide opportunities for people to more deeply engage in the community. These are well-organized, meaningful ways for you to make a difference. Additionally, we host several major community events each year that are eagerly anticipated by both volunteers and those who benefit.

 Art of Possibility - May
An exihibit and fundraising event which showcases the inspiring stories of change, transformation, and new possibilities told through artwork created by the people served by Volunteers of America of Minnesota.

Bowling for Backpacks – July
A fundraising event to benefit Volunteers of America of Minnesota and kick-off Operation Backpack.

Operation Backpack - July–August
You can purchase backpacks and fill them with grade-appropriate school supplies to help foster children and students attending our alternative schools by providing the tools essential for the start of the school year. A list of grade appropriate school supplies and backpack sizes will be provided upon registering. Volunteers are asked to drop off filled backpacks at a convenient drop location. Please contact us for drop locations. Staff will deliver the backpacks to the students.

Thanksgiving Food Drives – November
Conduct food drives, assemble bags of food, and deliver them to a program site serving low-income seniors or families.  We provide you with the shopping list, collection bins, and promotional materials.

Adopt a Family - September–December
You can purchase gifts from wish lists created by the recipients, wrap them and deliver them to our convenient drop–off location. Recipients are selected based on financial need and isolation and may include seniors, families, foster children, children residing in our treatment facilities, and children attending our alternative schools.

Corporate Volunteer Projects
These on-demand opportunities allow corporate groups to work with Volunteers of America of Minnesota to design engagement projects that align with your timeline, group size, goals, location, and interests. Past projects have ranged from 2-hour landscaping projects at our Education Center in Minneapolis, to complete building renovations at our residential treatment center located in Anoka, to spending the afternoon playing board games with seniors at our center in south Minneapolis. We can work together to develop a creative and fun way for employees to give back to the community in a meaningful way, while building a little team spirit along the way.
