Education & Schools

Our Education Programs provide opportunities for education and academic success for students who have not been successful in a traditional classroom setting (or experience other obstacles to success) so that they may improve their quality of life and lead successful lives in their homes and community.

Adult High School Diploma Program
— for students age 18 and over who are English Language Learners and/or need a high school diploma.

Charter School Authorizing Program — offers authorization to Minnesota charter schools who provide successful learning opportunities to students in small, educationally creative settings.  Authorization includes strong oversight, accountability and resources to help charter schools succeed.

Continuing Education Unit Committee — A state-approved committee that approves continuing education clock hours for the re-licensing of teachers of Volunteers of America-Minnesota alternative and specialty schools, as well as charter schools sponsored by Volunteers of America-Minnesota.

Opportunity High School — is a contracted specialty school with the Minneapolis Public Schools which is open to all students and specializes in meeting the needs of English Language Learners (ELL). Day and evening programs are available.

Phoenix High School — is a State approved Alternative Program which serves students in need of credit make-up and an educational setting smaller than traditional high schools. 

Service Adventure Leadership Team High School (SALT) — is a Minneapolis Public Schools specialty school, serving grades 10 through 12, which features an experiential and environmental themed program that focuses on leadership development and community-based service learning.
