DBT Outpatient for Young Adults

Individual DBT therapy is offered at both sites (above), but the groups take place at the Golden Valley clinic only.

Days/Hours: Individual therapy hours are scheduled to meet the needs of the participant. Business office hours for the Mental Health Clinics are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Fees:
Services are funded by insurance coverage of the referred client, including Medical Assistance, PMAP’s and most managed care companies and insurances.

Participants are: Young adults, ages 18-23, who have severe emotional/behavioral problems and/or Borderline Personality Disorder, who engage in self-harming behaviors.

Referrals:
Clients are encouraged to call to complete a request for services, however anyone who is currently working with a prospective client is welcome to assist with the referral process by calling our front desk at 763.225.4052 and should ask to be directed to the DBT Coordinator for any questions or to place a referral.

Summary: Volunteers of America of Minnesota (VOAMN) Mental Health Clinics Young Adult Intensive Outpatient DBT Program treats clients who have Borderline Personality Disorder and other Emotion Dysregulation Disorders. Clients will receive comprehensive treatment based of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy model developed and researched by Dr. Marsha Linehan. The methods utilized are: weekly individual DBT therapy, a weekly skills training group, telephone consultation to the client provided by the individual therapist and group consultation to the therapist.

Staff: The VOAMN Mental Health Clinics DBT - Intensive Outpatient Therapy Program team includes: a licensed psychologist, licensed independent social workers, licensed marriage and family therapists and licensed practitioners. Our team has been intensively trained through Behavioral Tech, LLC and is participating in the Practice Improvement Project through the Minnesota Department of Human Services aimed at working toward program and individual certifi cation for DBT services.

Agency Status/Licensure: Volunteers of America of Minnesota is a nonprofit 501c3 comprehensive social service organization, which is accredited by the National Council on Accreditation (COA). The VOAMN Mental Health Clinics program is licensed by the Department of Human Services as a Rule 29 Mental Health Clinic.

Individual DBT Therapy - The client will contract to participate in weekly individual DBT therapy. Individual therapy identifi es prioritized and sequenced behavioral targets that are life threatening, therapy interfering and/or quality of life directed which are treated with DBT interventions, use of diary cards and generalization of learning for situation specific behaviors.

Telephone Consultation to the Client - The client will have twenty-four hour access to the individual DBT therapist for generalization of skills.

Skills Training Group - The skills group is a two hour weekly psychoeducational group aimed at teaching enhanced skills in the areas of: Core Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation and Distress Tolerance.

Consultation Group - Each individual DBT therapist and skills trainer will participate in a ninety minute weekly consultation group to enhance clinician abilities and coordination of client programming.
