Leave A Legacy

Legacy gifts are an important ingredient to a healthy financial foundation for our mission.  This year, especially with all of the challenges we have seen with the economy, some key legacy gifts have made it possible for us to continue to offer high quality services without interruption.

Ideas for Maximizing Your Ability to Make a Gift

1.    Name Volunteers of America of Minnesota as a beneficiary of your will, revocable living trust, life insurance or retirement account. All these gifts leave you in complete control of your assets and can be changed during your lifetime.

2.    Arrange a gift that pays lifetime income to you or to you and another person through a charitable remainder trust or charitable gift annuity. Although these gifts are irrevocable, your cash flow may improve and you’ll enjoy tax savings as well.

3.    Make a gift from your IRA if you are age 70½ or older.  Last year we received several important gifts from IRA owners who said they enjoyed the idea of making tax-free distributions that make a difference in our programs. The extension of this law permitting a direct distribution to a charity expires in 2009.

Please contact your advisors soon if you are considering any of these gifts to get the most benefit before the year is over. Contact Laura Wagner, Director of Resource Development at 952-945-4061 if you’d like to learn more.
