The Volunteers of America assisted/customized living programs focus on quality of life, independence, dignity and wellness of being. Each program is customized and designed to be inclusive, and celebrate the diversity and unique character of each community we serve.
Our assisted/customized living program services are designed to help residents remain in their apartment homes and independent for as long as possible. These programs provide participants with around-the-clock supervision by nursing and other professional staff, as well as assistance with “Activities of Daily Living” (ADLs) provided by universal caregivers onsite in our existing rent-subsidized communities.
Nursing and Other Professional Staff
The Volunteers of America assisted living staff includes a program manager who is on site Monday through Friday and is on-call around-the-clock to assist with emergencies. We also have a Registered Nurse (RN) on staff to provide care planning, medical attention, assistance with medication set-ups and to handle special doctors orders. The RN is also on-call around-the-clock for medical emergencies. Our assisted/customized living aides are universal caregivers and are highly trained to provide assistance with “Activities of Daily Living” (ADLs), laundry, housekeeping, meals and activities. All assisted/customized living staff receives on-going, in-service training to ensure that all program participants receive the highest quality care possible.
ADLs
“Activities of Daily Living” (ADLs) are routine activities that people tend do everyday without needing assistance. There are six basic ADLs: eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring (walking) and continence. The ability or inability to perform ADLs can be used as a very practical measure of ability or disability.
Our programs offer participants of our assisted/customized living programs assistance with ADLs including bathing, personal care, housekeeping, laundry, nutritious meals, general problem-solving, activities and socialization, medication set-ups and reminders, one-person transfers, a weekly nurse visit and transportation arrangements.
Universal Caregivers
As universal caregivers, our professional staff of assisted/customized living aides can be involved in all aspects of a resident’s life, as needed. Our universal caregivers are available to respond to the needs of program participants immediately, including providing help with housekeeping, medication reminders, laundry and meal preparation.
Rent-Subsidized Communities
Volunteers of America assisted/customized living programs are located in U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funded, senior apartment buildings. The apartment rentals are independently managed, operated and leased. Our assisted/customized living program manager can help interested parties obtain leasing information from the building management.
Quality of Life
Volunteers of America assisted/customized living programs and services take a holistic approach to meeting the needs of each program participant. Wellness of Being is often used to describe the social, physical, medical, and emotional needs of the individual.
Affordable Assisted Living
For low-income program participants, Volunteers of America assisted/customized living programs accept government funding sources such as Elderly Waiver and CADI, which pay for approved assisted/customized living services. We also provide assisted/customized living services to other residents who may not qualify for government financial assistance.
