Photo of Elderly WomanIn the middle of the night, Ann woke up terrified and disoriented. She frantically called her daughter. After an hour on the phone, Ann was aware of her surroundings, calm and able to go back to sleep. But her daughter sat up and worried.

Ann could be your mom or mine. She had just turned 89 and her dementia was progressing.

Her daughters, who both worked full-time, did their best to care for their mom. But it got to a point where they knew they needed extra help.

That’s where Volunteers of America came in. Ann’s daughters reached out to us when they heard about our senior programs like care management, senior nutrition and mental health services.
 
Our staff worked with Ann and her daughters to make sure Ann received the services she needed to remain safe and well-cared for, and so her daughters wouldn't have to continually worry about her being okay.
