Emily began receiving Children’s Mental Health Case Management Program services in 2000.
When her family came to Volunteers of America of Minnesota for support, Emily was having difficulty at home and at school. She was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and would often have tantrums at home and at school that were both physical and verbal. Emily often didn’t remember her actions after her tantrums. Her inability to control her actions often left her parents having to cancel social and family functions to deal with her behavior.
Through the support of Children’s Mental Health Case Management Program services, Emily’s parents were able to access resources to address Emily’s mental health needs. Soon, Emily began participating in therapy and meeting regularly with her psychiatrist for medication monitoring. Her family was also able to access respite services so that both Emily and her parents were able to take a break and come back refreshed and ready to continue to address Emily’s mental health needs. She also received support at school to address her academic and social needs.
Emily and her family were able to complete Children’s Mental Health Case Management Program services in 2006. Emily is now flourishing both at home and at school. She is now an active and energetic girl who is able to use the support of her family and mental health professionals to continue to thrive in her everyday life.
