Abdfrisak came to the United States during the winter months. His arrival in the snow and ice dominated state of Minnesota was quite a shock. Despite the cold, snow and ice, he found the people of Minnesota to be outgoing, friendly and helpful to everyone. Abdfrisak noted, “They smile a lot and say ‘Hi, can I help you’ if they see a question mark on your face.”
Abdfrisak considers his enrollment in Volunteers of America of Minnesota Opoprtunity High School to be a great experience. “I met good, hardworking and dedicated teachers whose goal is always to educate every single student in the school,” he added. “The teachers put some good measures in place so that no single student is left behind [which is a] great contribution to both fast and slow performing students.” Abdfrisak explained how he enjoys the facilities including the library and computer lab. When asked about graduation, he said, “I am looking forward to getting my high school diploma in order to go to college. God willing, and with the help of my teachers, this will happen.”
